Why Your RV Needs to Be Level

Leveling your RV might seem like a tiresome and unnecessary step at times, but it’s essential if you want your RV to last a long time without extra damage.

In the first place, you’ll see a lot of extra stress placed on the frame, structure, doors, and slide-outs if the RV isn’t leveled. Your frame won’t be able to support the vehicle’s weight as it should without proper leveling, and this can lead to wear and tear. Your doors won’t be properly open or close, and your slide-out sections will see a lot of wear if they’re being opened or closed without leveling. In time, the weight and stress can lead to serious damage, which will be very expensive to repair.

In addition, your tank sensors won’t be able to read how much or how little fluid you have properly. Slopes can lead to inaccurate readings, and it’s not a good idea to have any fluids in your RV after you return home and leave them there for months. These fluids can include water and sewage, so keeping your RV level will avoid nasty surprises when you think you’ve emptied everything.

Keeping your RV level can also significantly reduce the danger of refrigerator fires. These common fires are often caused by uneven surfaces, making it impossible for the ammonia and water solution to flow properly. If it doesn’t flow properly, the fridge’s condenser will start to overheat and burn up, leading to the whole RV going up in flames. Only with proper leveling can this tragedy be avoided.
