What Not to Bring on Your Next RV Trip
Over the years, we have come across many tips on what to bring on an RV trip, but did you know that there are also a number of items you should leave at home? Knowing what not to bring on a trip across the country can be just as important as knowing what you should take, and in order to help you out with this, we’ve compiled a list of the top items you should ditch when hitting the open road.
1. Canned Food
One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a first-time RVer is bringing too many canned goods on your trip. Many newbies often think they need plenty of food options while on the road, but in the end, the canned goods take up space and most of the food doesn’t get eaten. To eliminate this issue, it’s best to plan your meals ahead of time and only bring what you’ll need.
2. Full Tank of Water
Avoid filling your tank with water when heading out on a road trip. A small amount of water is fine, but if you add too much, you will end up weighing down your RV. The excess weight will slow down your travels significantly. Try hooking up to the campground’s water supply instead to obtain fresh water.
3. Firewood
Buying cheap bundles of lumber is never worth it in the end. The wood adds too much weight to the RV and takes up storage space. It also often dirties compartments and leaves wood splinters everywhere.
4. Additional Large Vehicles
Towing a vehicle to the back of your motorhome is a common practice when RVing; however, we suggest you avoid bringing a large car, truck or SUV. Big vehicles often slow down the R and extend your driving time. It’s best to opt for a small, compact car or SUV that delivers top-notch fuel efficiency. This will save you plenty of gas money in the long run.
5. Work
There’s a time and a place for work and a cross-country trip is not one of them. Make sure you leave your laptop and paperwork at home in order to fully enjoy your RV excursion. This is the time for you to relax, and spend quality time with your friends and family.
