Tips to Remember Before Your First RV Trip

Going on your first RV cross-country trip can be an exciting experience, but before you set out on the open road there are a few tips you should keep in mind to help you prepare for your adventure. From making lists to practicing your driving skills, there are a number of things to do prior to your excursion and we have included a few of these essentials and others in a small compilation made just for you!

Make a List and Check it Twice

The best way to ensure you don’t forget anything before heading out on your first RV excursion is by making a list. Write down every single thing you’ll need to take with you on your trip, including toiletries, kitchen necessities, a first aid kit, a portable toolbox and clothes. As you pack each item, cross it off your list and then double check it on the day you plan on leaving. This will keep you from forgetting important items and save you from taking unexpected trips to the store.

Make a Campground Reservation and Do Your Homework

Before going on your first RV adventure, it’s best to research the area you’re going to be traveling to. Find out what the area has to offer and make notes of places you want to visit and activities you want to take part in. You’ll also want to find out as much information about the campsite as you can and make sure it has the amenities you’re looking for. If you want the whole shebang, including sewer, water and electricity, be sure to make a reservation for a full site hookup before heading to your destination.

Practice Driving Your RV

If you’ve never gotten behind the wheel of an RV before, it’s a good idea to take it out on an empty road and practice driving. Backing up in an RV can be a little challenging at first, so it’s important that you practice the maneuver in order to feel confident in your abilities. By taking your RV out on the road for a few days prior to your trip, you’ll get the hang of driving it in no time!

Practice Setting Up Your RV at Home

For those who are new to owning an RV, it’s a good idea to practice setting up your motorhome at home before you head to your first campsite. Make sure you know how to properly work your slides if your RV comes with them and operate all of your jacks. This will help you feel more comfortable when setting up your RV for the first time at a campsite and it could save you some headaches.
