Five Secret Travel Spots in North America

Travelers in search of somewhere new to visit this fall should view our list of “Five Secret Travel Spots in North America.” At several of these hidden gem destinations, you’ll discover plenty of beautiful natural sites, including waterfalls, gorgeous pools, hidden caves and prosperous trees.

Olympic National Park Tree Cave – Port Angeles, WA

Known by many as “The Tree of Life,” the Tree Cave located on Kalaloch Beach at Olympic National Park is a jaw-dropping sight. The tree appears to be floating in the air, with its root system unanchored and the soil that once sat below it completely gone. However, this hasn’t stopped the tree from flourishing. It’s still very much alive and a must-see for park visitors.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore – Bayfield, WI

A total of 21 islands make up Apostle Islands, which reside off the northern coast of Wisconsin. Dubbed the “Jewels of Lake Superior,” these islands are a top destination for travelers who want to enjoy the great outdoors. From fishing, hiking and lighthouse tours to scuba diving and exploring shipwrecks, there’s so much to see and do when visiting the Apostle Islands.

Tamolitch Blue Pool – McKenzie River Trail, OR

A waterfall once flowed into the Tamolitch Blue Pool, but it has since dried up, leaving the pool behind. What’s unique about the pool is its topaz blue color and clear water, which allows you to see all the way down to the bottom. While it seems perfectly still, the water is constantly moving in the pool and in some areas its depth is over 30 feet. On a very hot day you can even jump into the pool, but beware, the water is extremely cold.

Manatee Springs State Park – Chiefland, FL

If you’ve ever wanted to get up close and personal with manatees, you’ll have your chance at Manatee State Park. During the winter months, these mammals make their way to the park in search of warmer water temperatures and set up shop for the season. Visitors are even welcome to swim with them during their stay.

Rifle Falls State Park – Rifle, CO

Waterfall lovers will absolutely adore Rifle Falls State Park. It is home to three 80-foot waterfalls, which each flow beside each other. Surrounded by vibrant greenery, limestone caves and the waterfalls are completely enchanting and provide the perfect backdrop for family photos. There are also plenty of picnic spots throughout the area for you to enjoy an afternoon snack.
