Many families who are after a recreational vehicle find that a Class A motorhome is too large. Instead, they find that either a Class B or Class C is more what they are after. The decision comes down to what they are looking for in size, design, and features.
Performance
Class B motorhomes are also called van conversions. They are smaller than Class C options and drive more like a car. If maneuverability is a concern, Class B is the way to go. They typically fit easily into driveways and get better fuel economy numbers than other types of motorhomes.
When it comes to Class C motorhomes, they are often seen as a compromise between a Class A and Class B option. They drive similarly to a moving fan. While Class B motorhomes can usually tow no more than 5,000 pounds, Class C can sometimes tow up to 10,000 or more. This is due to its stronger chassis.
Appearance
At first glance, a Class B motorhome looks like a slightly enlarged van. The roof is raised so that people can stand up inside and so that there is more room for storage space. Many Class B motorhomes are designed with a dinette set that converts into a bed in the back.
When people picture a motorhome, they typically think of a Class C. An overhang is placed over the cab, usually the primary bed location. The driver’s area is separated from the main living area by a small passageway that includes a step or two.
Features
Despite its smaller size, the average Class B motorhome fits everything needed for daily life on the road. A stove, sink, and even a mini-fridge are all included. Most have a toilet as well.
A Class C motorhome gives drivers more amenities, as well as more cargo space. They can hold more water, propane, and waste, making them more convenient for some drivers. While a Class B motorhome can typically sleep up to four people, some Class C motorhomes can handle eight.
