Best Tips for RVing with Your Pet

Traveling across country with your pet can be a rewarding experience, but before you begin planning your trip, there are a few tidbits you should know. RVing with your pet can be very different than RVing with people, which is why it’s important that you check out our top four tips for RVing with your pet in order to prepare for your next adventure.

Make Sure the RV Park Allows Pets

One of the first things you want to do when traveling with pets is research each RV park you’ll be staying at. Certain campgrounds may have specific regulations prohibiting pets, while others may welcome all types. It’s imperative that you call ahead of time and determine whether or not your pet is permitted on the site.

Vaccinate Your Pet & Bring Paperwork

While on the road, you never know what other animals or scenarios your curious pet may encounter, which is why it’s important to make sure your pet’s shots and vaccinations are up-to-date before you head out on your trip. You should also bring your pet’s paperwork with you, considering most RV parks require guests to keep pet health documents with them. In addition to the paperwork, flea and tick spray are great items to carry with you as well, in order to ensure your pet stays safe from pesky insects.

Keep an ID Tag on Your Pet

Always keep an ID tag on your pet with your name, address and phone number while traveling. If your pet gets lost and is found by fellow travelers or locals, they can easily contact you and return your pet as soon as possible.

Be Mindful of Your Neighbors

When staying at an RV park with your pet, it’s imperative that you respect the property and be mindful of those camping around you. Always pick up after your pet and speak to a park employee to determine the best possible solution for removing waste. Also, if you’re traveling with a dog, make sure he remains on a leash while on the grounds at all times during your stay.
