Enjoy A Road Trip Scavenger Hunt with Geocaching
There’s nothing like a fun game to get a road trip kicked into high gear and geocaching is just the right activity to optimize your RV adventure. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering what exactly “geocaching” is. It’s the ultimate worldwide scavenger hunt where participants use a navigation system to discover the location of a “cache,” aka a container with unique contents. The game can be played by anyone and everyone with the ability to locate coordinates and it’s fun for the whole family.
To find a cache during your travels, simply visit the official geocaching website and search for one by zip code. Once you have the coordinates, enter them in your GPS and allow it to lead you to the location. Don?t be surprised if you arrive and you don’t see the cache in sight. The fun is in discovering where it’s hidden. It could be in a tree or even inside a building – the possibilities are endless! When you finally locate the cache, you should find a logbook inside filled with interesting facts, stories or the names of other visitors. Each cache should at least have a logbook, but often times you’ll discover other great items, which you may even be able to take with you.
There are many caches that remain at their specific location, but if you want to make the game more interesting, you can search for Travel Bug Trackable caches, which are meant to travel to different locations, or caches that contain Geocoins, customized coins created by other geocachers, which also travel. Whichever you choose, you’re sure to add some additional excitement to your RV road trip, so try it out next time you hit the road. You never know what you’ll find! Happy geocaching!
